Mockingbird Griff by Heatherbeast Mockingbird Griff by Heatherbeast
Complete with bobcat rear, I suspect. A whole lot of attitude in one package. This will be moved to scraps in a few days.

Given recent events, I'm probably going to ease off on Transformers related things for a while.

I will likely draw a few of these griffs mobbing a terrified dragon, full colored, etc. for (next year's) Dragon*Con juried show. I've got a pretty good idea of the posture and such for all three (possibly four?) figures, but need to decide on a setting for the image. Perhaps on the edge of a field, where I can use some shading effects. It's definitely something to ponder, and input from anyone interested would be welcome.

On a parapet! Or perhaps a rampart.

I love it! Great pose, and the wings are very detailed.

Looks very neat. I love how you did the wings. And the foreshortening of the torso was not bad either.

Those are some of the tiniest ears on a gryph that I've ever seen. One ounce of cute in a whole few hundred pounds of fury. ^^

They're not quite bobcat, but ehn... I couldn't bring myself to make them any larger!

What a freakin great Griff! :judge: Reminds me of some of the crazy birds that haunt our birdfeeder. They've definitely got the attitude! Taking ~The-Devi-stator's suggestion and expanding on it, I'd love to see your dragon getting harried by the flock for being too curious around their aerie. But regardless, I can't wait to see the finished product! :deviation:

Whee, you posted it! Great job! The mockingbird wings are a great touch, I'd love to see it colored! Lotta action there. ;P Can't wait to see the aforementioned griffin/dragon picture.

Aww look at his little ears. XD

Indeed I did. Even if it's just a little thought doodle. He's going to the scraps today, I think. I don't plan on refining this particular image/piece any further. But he's there, and proof of concept. There's so much attitude in those birds I could hardly resist. It'll contribute to the final piece, and that's what matters. :) Thanks for taking a look!

I squeed already, but I'm gonna squee again. Can't wait to see the final picture (for which I suggest a setting amidst a rocky landscape, but that's just me).

Neat idea, origional too! :)

Perhaps You could draw the dragon on the ground, rearing and trying to take off while all these griffs bug the crap out of him.

As I said on Trill, I quite like this. You've basically drawn this griff in exactly the style that I like to see them drawn*, so kudos! Now that I stare at it, the connection between the cat tail and the bird tail does look a little wonky, but I think that I see what you were going for.

* I am picky for personal reasons relating to the stupidity of others in my childhood.

I am curious about which styles appeal, and which griff styles annoy. Tell me more? :)

Well, for one thing, anything with the head of a lion is not a griff.

Also, I like birdie forelimbs.

I really like the positon of the hands and feet :D THe tail looks a little deprived of feathers, however.

Still not quite sure how to reconcile the bobtail with that awesomely expressive tail that mockers have.
